3. Air Bud Returns

Once upon a time, you simply couldn't ignore the Air Bud franchise in your local rental store, with the success of the original family sports dramedy spawning both a glut of sequels and a whole host of spin-offs throughout the 2000s and early 2010s.

The franchise seemingly came to a long overdue conclusion by that point, but last year Cineverse announced that they were developing a new Air Bud film - the first, in fact, to have a theatrical release in almost three decades.

But it gets stranger from there. Not content to merely be an Air Bud legacy sequel, Air Bud Returns is also a meta-sequel of sorts, revolving around a boy who finds a VHS copy of the original Air Bud film and then oh-so-coincidentally meets a basketball-playing Golden Retriever. What are the odds?

Though Animal Movies do have a storied history at the box office, one suspects that Cineverse might be overestimating the enduring popularity of Air Bud just a little bit here.
