The black comedy-drama stars Melanie Lynskey as depressed nursing assistant Ruth who after finding her home burgled and the police unhelpful decides to go vigilante and track down those responsible with the help of her nunchaku-wielding, heavy metal-loving neighbour Tony (Elijah Wood) with hilariously funny in a dark kind of way consequences,

Subversive, smart, fun and hyper-violent the movie flew under the most people’s radars thanks to a Netflix release which can be something of a double-edged sword that sees less commercially-oriented films get buried in its massive back catalogue. Still though, it’s without a doubt one of the year’s best indies and puts Macon Blair on the map as a director to watch.
