Though it'll benefit somewhat from Peter Jackson serving as producer, this young adult adaptation is destined to be steamrolled at the box office for a number of reasons.

Where to begin? The premise and steampunk style might be too "weird" for the mainstream, there are few name actors among its cast, it's got a no-name director, has suffered from utterly mediocre marketing and is being released during the aforementioned Christmas bloodbath, where it has by far the lowest visibility of all the movies vying for audience custom.

Dead on arrival, folks.
