Probably the most baffling thing about this peculiar mash-up of the young adult and sci-fi genres is that it's not even based on a popular teen novel.

STX Entertainment clearly believes that the director of Hannah Montana: The Movie can print money out of a glossy sci-fi romance without any A-list box office draws for the teen crowd. Plus, leads Asa Butterfield and Britt Robertson both have a big-budget sci-fi flop to their names (Ender's Game and Tomorrowland respectively).

As if all that wasn't bad enough, the film has the utter misfortune of releasing a week after Rogue One, and the same day as a far higher-profile sci-fi romance in Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence's Passengers.

Oh, and the trailers appear to have basically spoiled most of the movie, so what's the point even going to see it?

Estimated Box Office: $140 million (approx $100 million budget).
