The night's first big shock came early on, when Suicide Squad scooped up the Best Makeup & Hairstyling Oscar instead of widely-expected winner Star Trek Beyond.

This naturally whipped the Internet into a frenzy, with fans bemoaning not only the controversial film having an Oscar, but the DC Extended Universe getting its first Oscar before the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In fairness, though, if you're going to praise anything about the movie, the makeup and hair is a pretty damn good place to start.

Nothing in this category was mind-blowingly brilliant, but it's still quite the surprise considering how the Oscars usually refuses to recognise "bad" films even when they've got strong technical credentials.
