20 Movies Destroyed By Their Plot Holes
11. Mindhunters - No-One Has This Level Of Foresight!
Mindhunters is a movie so plot hole-ridden that it might just have you howling with laughter. An And Then There Were None-style thriller, this sees a group of trainees in the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit being picked off one by one during a training exercise.
Fellow trainee Lucas (Jonny Lee Miller) turned out to be the killer, and he's used his profiling skills to set up each of their deaths. Well, that's what he says. In fact, each death is the result of a never-ending series of coincidences that he could never possibly have predicted, no matter how clever he was.
For example, the first death is that of JD (Christian Slater). While the group is exploring a room, a clock starts playing an annoying tune and JD goes to turn it off, which sets off a Rube Goldberg machine that activates a tank of liquid nitrogen that freezes him to death. Anyone else could've stopped the clock, and JD might've just taken one step to the side, which would've saved him.
Sure, Lucas later says that he knew JD would stop the clock because he's a natural leader, but that's just dumb. Turning off an annoying bit of music is something any of them would've wanted to do. The rest of it continues in this vein, confirming Mindhunters is one of the silliest horror-thrillers in existence. Thanks to its countless logic gaps, any enjoyment of this one is likely to be ironic, at best.
