20 Recent Movies That Deserve A Sequel

14. Argylle

Not only did Matthew Vaughn's Argylle waste an incredibly strong cast, but the story was framed in the worst way it could have been. Instead of following Elly Conway's (Bryce Dallas Howard) journey through writing her in-universe fifth book, why not produce an adaptation of her first novel, which was genuinely released in real life?

It may not be the greatest spy story ever told, but it would be better than the weird framing device the film ultimately went with. Think of it as similar to Lightyear, in that it would be the big-screen adaptation of the in-universe book, only it would have the potential to be far better than the Pixar flop.

Firstly, casting Henry Cavill as a James Bond-esque spy for only 10 minutes of screen time was an utter waste. Put him front and centre alongside his frenemy Wyatt (played by John Cena) for a full film, paying off the post-credit scene lifted directly from the novel in which Argylle picks up his first gun, and you've got a much better story to play with.

Argylle may have flopped, but a strong streaming performance paired with a very eager Matthew Vaughn means a sequel may not be out of the question.
