Appeared In: Iron Man

Now we go back to the beginning of the MCU. It's the first godawful villain and the first waste of a great actor.

Jeff Bridges is an enormously talented actor who is usually a lot of fun to watch even in his more serious roles. In stark contrast to his usual greatness, his performance in the first Iron Man film is extremely underwhelming.

With no depth, menace or personality, Jeff Bridges' sleepwalking and one-note performance makes the character a hollow shell of a villain. He doesn't even ham it up and instead settles for more or less one expression and one tone of voice throughout the entire film, making it by far and away one of his weakest performances.

The character of Obadiah Shane also established the tropes of painfully obvious villain twists, a villain who's just a technologically upgraded and bigger version of the hero and the villain going insane at the end for absolutely no reason; Iron Man is not only the origin story of Iron Man, it's the origin story of the MCU villain problem.
