20 Recent Box Office Bombs EVERYONE Saw Coming

5. The Moment

We need only look towards last year's The Weeknd-starring thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow to know that enormous musical popularity doesn't instantly translate to box office success.

That is to say, the audiences of today won't follow a pop mega-star everywhere they go just because.

And so, it was easy to be sceptical about the prospects of Charli XCX's A24-produced meta-comedy The Moment, especially when factoring in its tricky, tough-to-sell concept, the historically poor commercial performance of mockumentaries, mediocre marketing, and the mixed reviews it received out of Sundance.

Even though it was produced for just $4 million, The Moment topped out at the very same figure, and while it will likely claw back the rest of its production costs on streaming over time, A24 surely thought a film centred around one of the most popular musicians of her era would do many times better than this.

As outside observers looking in, though, it was so easy to see this flop coming.
