25 Most Mind-Bending Moments In Sci-Fi Movie History

11. Norris' Transformation - The Thing (1982)

John Carpenter€™s The Thing may very well be his most well-executed film. The Arctic setting, the paranoia among the characters, as well as Rob Bottin€™s frightening creature effects all mesh well to create a truly unique and frightening film experience. The truly mind-bending moment happens midway through the film when the character Norris suffers from what appears to be a heart-attack. The men prop him on the operating table and use a defibrillator on him. But as the doctor tries the defibrillator for the last time, Norris€™ stomach morphs into a set of teeth that bites the arms of the doctor off. The doctor screams in pain, as Norris€™ body starts to transform to protect itself. Soon, Norris€™ head detaches itself from its human body and starts to slide along the floor. It then sprouts spider-legs and tries to walk out of the room. Luckily MacCready (Kurt Russell) shoots it with a flamethrower before it can get away. It€™s mind-bending because of how well done and gross the effects are, as well as the character€™s stunned reactions. Palmer€™s line €œYou€™ve got to be f*cking kidding!€ is a nice comic-relief moment, but I bet we€™d all say the same thing.
