Female superhero is not a synonym for secondary character though you certainly couldnt tell that by the current state of hero movie offerings. For Wonder Woman to succeed she must be allowed to lead. She must be an integral part of any team not a character who was slotted into the story as a form of appeasement. Wonder Woman must not be an adjunct. She needs to be a part of the super hero universe not exist outside of it. She must be given a voice and more importantly the other characters need to pay attention to it. Superhero movies are another kind of glass ceiling. Only 14% of the top executive positions in U.S. firms are held by women. This has nothing to do with a womans intelligence or her leadership capabilities and everything to do with the fact that these businesses have traditionally been controlled by men. The movie studios are corporate interests and they also have a dismal record in promoting women. If Wonder Woman is to succeed it must be viewed as a worthwhile project on its own. Yet the many missteps and reluctance shown in bringing this remarkable character to the screen indicates that while her story is vitally important to a large segment of the movie going audience it is not seen as a premier project to studio executives.
