Theres nothing wrong with romance. Human relationships are endlessly fascinating and fun to watch play out on screen. By all means give Diana a love interest if it fits within the story. But do not make that relationship the driving force behind all of the characters actions. Real women are not solely defined by the people they choose to love so stop presenting them that way on film. Make Diana conflicted, complicated even morally ambiguous. She is not a damsel in distress. She does not need rescuing. Make her the hero of her own life story. Our heroes need to have flaws in order to remain interesting and relatable. This is also true for Wonder Woman. There is a danger that the movie will not succeed simply because she is turned into a strong character rather than a nuanced one. Strong characters are boring. Real people are complicated. It is the weakness of a character and how they act to either give in to or counteract those impulses that makes their story riveting.
