WINNER: La La Land

This was a tough one to call, but the elaborate nature of La La Land's various set-ups (especially that mind-boggling opening freeway dance sequence) makes it the winner here, combining gorgeous sets with larger-than-life locations to magical effect.

It's clear that the production design melded perfectly with director Damien Chazelle's own vision to make the film one of the year's most eye-pleasing experiences, evoking a classically old-school feel while still serving as a potent love letter to modern sun-kissed Los Angeles.
