10 Best Horror Movies Of 2026 (So Far)
8. Whistle
When it comes to the inescapability of fate in horror movies, and the wider cinematic landscape in general, Final Destination is likely the first franchise that comes to mind. However, 2026 had another to throw its hat in that particular ring.
This came in the form of Corin Hardy's Whistle, a Dafne Keen-led effort that pitted a group of high schoolers against their eventual deaths after hearing the sound of a mysterious, Aztec whistle.
There were plenty of tropes ticked off here, from the group of teenagers thrown together, played by actors far too old to play teenagers, to the sexual tension between them and their getting picked off one by one, but it worked. It was as much a horror film as it was a high school drama, and the two tones complemented each other well.
Though there were strong performances all round, it was of course Keen who stood out as Chrysanthemum in a creepy and supernatural, yet human and relatable story. Everyone fears death, and to have it literally chase you down is unthinkable, and a great premise for a film that was backed up by strong execution.
