10 Best Horror Movies Of 2026 (So Far)

7. Hokum

There will always be a place in the world, amidst the slashers and the gore-fests, for those quieter horror films that very much take on the less-is-more approach. Hokum is one such effort, benefiting from its slow-burn pace for a truly creepy and unsettling experience.

The story told of Ohm Bauman (Adam Scott) heading out to Ireland to scatter his parents' ashes, before ultimately getting dragged into the supernatural folklore of such a beautiful country. It had everything an audience could ask for from such a tale - a haunted hotel, a missing person mystery, witchcraft, and an unapologetic, narcissistic a-hole ready to be dragged into it all.

Said a-hole was, of course, played by Adam Scott, and though this isn't his first foray into the world of horror, he has chosen one hell of a role to cement his dramatic chops after impressing on Apple TV's Severance.

His character was forced to confront personal as well as literal demons, with the folklore working more as a backdrop to his own journey and the case of the missing Fiona (Florence Ordesh), rather than as an overwhelming presence. This arguably made it all the more effective as it began to play a larger role in the final act, as the piece built to a dramatic and wonderfully ambiguous ending.
