10 Best Horror Movies Of 2026 (So Far)

6. Faces Of Death

Though it's certainly not exclusive to the genre, remakes haven't been a huge source of success within the horror space. The likes of Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and My Bloody Valentine, among others, have seen reboots that have been forgettable at best, and much worse at worst.

Evil Dead may be the biggest success in this regard. However, 2026 saw a return to 1978's controversial Faces of Death, and in what would have been a surprise to just about everyone, it wasn't awful. In fact, it was quite the opposite.

The original became infamous for its apparent depictions of real-life violence and death, resulting in a modern-day reboot feeling all but unthinkable. It's fair to say that nobody needed this, and nobody was asking for it, but even so, Daniel Goldhaber's effort ended as one of the more surprising outings 2026 has had to offer.

Rather than a pointless and predictable shot-for-shot remake, Faces of Death found a new way to approach the story. By coming from a meta, self-aware angle, in which the original existed as a movie within the confines of the story itself, the reimagining was allowed to confront the problematic nature of the 1978 version, while also focusing on the dangers of the online world at large.
