20 Great Performances Wasted In Terrible Horror Movies
4. Anthony Hopkins - The Rite
Though well-received by the Catholic Church, 2011's exorcism film The Rite was panned by just about everyone else, the masses simply left reeling by the presence of the great Anthony Hopkins in such a stuffy, unremarkable Exorcist riff.
But let's be real - Hopkins is perfectly cast as veteran priest Father Lucas Trevant, and it's an absolute hoot to see him play someone possessed, which is really reason enough to watch The Rite once. But only once.
Sadly, too much of the focus is placed on the decidedly less interesting seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue), and every time Hopkins is off-screen, most are likely just waiting impatiently for him to return.
Hopkins has admittedly classed-up his fair share of absolute schlock over the years - Transformers: The Last Knight, anyone? - but in this case, if you removed him from the movie, there would be precious little left to remember.
