Birds Of Prey: 10 Major New Details Revealed During The Press Tour

7. Oracle Could Play A Role In The Sequel

Notable by her absence in Birds of Prey is Barbara Gordon. Known as Batgirl before an attack from the Joker left her paralysed, she would later become Oracle, a hero in her own right who helped both Batman and this team fight crime from her Watchtower in Gotham City. Now, Huntress actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead has confirmed that there were discussions about including her in this movie.

Sadly, those didn't pan out but Black Canary actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell is keen to see her next time around. "There’s so many that the Birds could team up with. Obviously Oracle/Barbara Gordon has to," she told Heroic Hollywood during a cast interview. "There’s also so many. You can bring in Poison Ivy as a villain. You can have Lady Shiva. There’s a whole world. It’s a wealth of potential I think."

Seeing those characters in the follow-up would be great but they're also not the only ideas the cast have had regarding the franchise's future. "There’s a potential crossover with Batman and Catwoman," Winstead added before Smollett-Bell chimed in with "Green Arrow," referencing Black Canary's love interest and partner in the comics.

Whether these hopes will come to fruition remains to be seen but it would be no bad thing for Harley to get a little less of the spotlight in the sequel in order to allow some other comic book characters to step up. Now, we just have to hope that Matt Reeves has no plans to introduce Batgirl in his Batman trilogy because that could close the door on her appearing here.
