20 Most WTF Horror Movies Of The 2020s (So Far)

18. Terrifier 2

Terrifier 2 is nothing if not a sequel that totally ups the ante from its micro-budget predecessor in basically every conceivable way.

For one, filmmaker Damien Leone doubles down on the original's practical gore effects with a number of revoltingly cartoonish execution sequences - one in particular which remains perhaps the single cruellest instance of cinematic overkill this decade.

Leone also ambitiously expands the series' lore with the film's epic - and, admittedly, arguably overstretched - 138-minute runtime, tying the loose scraps of world-building established in the original film together with a stranger, more Lynchian sheen.

Tonally it's also all over the place, vaulting from grim violence to blacker-than-black comedy at a moment's notice, yet it's David Howard Thornton's ever-consistent performance as Art the Clown that somehow holds it all together in even its most jarring shifts.

In fact, Terrifier 2 is so damn WTF that the third film struggled to push things quite so far.
