No list of WTF recent horror movies would be complete without Skinamarink - the mind-boggling experimental feature debut of filmmaker Kyle Edward Ball, expanded from his acclaimed 2020 short film Heck.

Ball's film, about two young siblings who wake up during the night to discover their father has vanished along with the doors and windows in their house, is one of the most stylistically and narrative polarising films, regardless of genre, released this decade.

Produced for just $15,000, Ball's film is an extremely minimalist affair which uses liminal imagery and negative space to unsettle the viewer, though of course, such a spare approach was always going to be perceived as "boring" by some swept up in the film's viral online hype.

All the same, Ball does a splendid job of crafting a visually striking waking nightmare that looks quite unlike any other horror film out there - even if it's categorically not for everyone, to be kind.
