20 Horror Movie Scenes They Were FORCED To Cut
3. The Homeless Massacre - An American Werewolf in London
John Landis' seminal horror masterpiece An American Werewolf in London features a brief scene where a group of three homeless men are attacked by the werewolf while warming themselves by a fire near the Thames.
In the final released version of the movie, we don't see the bloody end result, but Landis did film a longer version of the scene where the men are shown being torn apart.
However, test audiences reacted adversely to the sequence, possibly feeling that it was a touch too mean-spirited to show people in evidently dire straits then suffering such a brutal end.
Furthermore, Landis was struggling at the time to avoid an X rating due to the film's content, and so he was basically looking for explicit moments to cut that wouldn't upend the story, with this aside being an easy choice.
Landis did later express regret that he culled it, and it's a shame it hasn't ever materialised as a home video extra all these years later.
