Hot Fuzz is inspired by an amateur film Wright made as a teen called Dead Right. The film was billed as Lethal Weapon set in Somerset or Dirty Harry set in Somerset, showing early the link between preposterous action and the English countryside. This duality helped inform the film title, with Hot usually being part of the title of a bombastic actioner, and Fuzz being a quintessentially British name for the Police.
