A vampire comic book movie isn't a new thing and Sony are actually beating the MCU to the punch this time, since Blade won't arrive until some time in Phase 5. Before then, we all get to see Jared Leto playing Morbius the living vampire.
With as many villains available, it was a little strange that Sony chose to bring in a character this strange - particularly with the trend of more scientifically-focused and "realistic" comic book movies these days. But nobody ever made big impressions by staying safe, did they?
The questions here will be around Leto's ability to rein in a "normal" performance after his turn as The Joker in Suicide Squad. He's a talented actor - and an award winner, of course - so there's huge potential here. Let's just hope director Daniel Espinosa - who previously made Child 44 and Life - can get something good out of it. The rest of the cast, including Jared Harris, Matt Smith and Tyrese Gibson, looks good too.
