19. Jake Almost Kills Spider - Avatar: Fire & Ash

Avatar: Fire and Ash may have felt like a disappointing quasi-rehash of the previous film, but its most contested scene is the infamous moment where Jake (Sam Worthington) almost executes Quaritch's (Stephen Lang) son Spider (Jack Champion).

After Spider develops the ability to breathe Pandora's air without a mask, Jake makes the decision to kill Spider to prevent the RDA from capturing him and reverse-engineering a way for all of humanity to exist on Pandora unassisted.

However, Jake of course cannot bring himself to kill Spider after putting a knife to his throat, in a sequence that falls totally, absurdly flat.

For one, it isn't easy to accept that Jake would ever resign himself to such a grim choice, especially with Spider now being his adopted son.

It certainly doesn't help that Jack Champion's performance in the scene is extremely weak and fails to sell the fear of what's about to happen to him. 

And so, what's supposed to be a grand emotional turning point in the movie totally misses the mark.
