20 Horror Franchises That NEED To Come Back
9. Trick 'r Treat
Now in total fairness, you can only barely even call Trick 'r Treat a franchise considering it consists of just a precursor short film and a single feature, but Michael Dougherty's 2007 horror-comedy anthology has retained such a passionate fanbase after two decades that it feels like so much more.
After all, devilish trick-or-treater Sam is a genuine horror icon in his own right with a ton of merchandising to his name, and Dougherty has been trying to get a sequel produced pretty much ever since the original was released.
Few meaningful updates came for more than a decade, though in 2022 Dougherty confirmed that Trick 'r Treat 2 was in "active development," later adding that drafts of the script had been written and he was focused on the financial and scheduling aspects of production.
Sadly though, considering the original film wasn't much of a commercial success and so much time has passed, it's tough to believe we'll ever get this pie-in-the-sky sequel, much as many would love to see it.
