20 Horror Sequels That Took FOREVER To Get Made

8. Scream (2022)

Despite being the most iconic slasher franchise of the last 30 years, Scream has had some surprisingly lengthy gaps between movies.

Though the original trilogy was produced between 1996 and 2000, a fourth film wasn't released until 2011, largely due to Wes Craven feeling satisfied that he wrapped up Sidney's (Neve Campbell) arc at the end of Scream 3.

Scream 4 was nothing if not a solid relaunch, though between its mediocre marketing and the early 2010s being a down period for slashers, it ended up the series' lowest-grossing entry to date.

And so, Scream was put back on ice for another 11 years, until the decision was made to go the legacy sequel/"requel" route, teaming the original stars with a new band of younger heroes.

A critical and commercial success, 2022's fifth Scream birthed a new trilogy of Scream movies, the most recent of which swiftly became the highest-grossing to date, no matter the dire reviews.

With Scream seemingly enjoying peak popularity right now, expect the sequels to keep coming thick and fast until interest dries up again.
