Independence Day 2: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Sequel

8. Don't Expect To See Randy Quaid

He sacrificed himself at the end of the first movie anyway, going out in a blaze of glory on a kamikaze mission to take out the alien mothership, but Randy Quaid, best known as Cousin Eddie, won't even be back for Independence Day 2 in flashback form, mostly because, in recent years, the actor has more or less lost the plot. Quaid turned up in Canada with wife Evi last year claiming asylum from a shadowy group of Hollywood-obsessed killers they referred to as "Star Whackers" and were temporarily granted a stay in the country as Evi apparently has some Canadian relatives. Eventually, their application was denied, but signs of turmoil had turned up even before then: the pair launched a lawsuit in 2010 claiming Randy's royalties were being funnelled into a bogus account under the name Ronda Quaid. Shadowy forces were at work, stealing their money, possibly threatening their lives. That actually sounds like a pretty solid movie premise, come to think of it.
