True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård very nearly ended up playing Thor, making the final shortlist of actors and even getting to try the costume on for a screen test.

Ultimately, of course, Kevin Feige went with Chris Hemsworth, and the rest is history.

Would It Have Worked?: Absolutely. Skarsgård's proven himself to be a terrific actor over the years with considerable dramatic and comedic chops, not to mention an absolutely insane physique.

Plus, if he'd been cast as the Asgardian, he'd have been able to work opposite his father, Stellan Skarsgård, who of course went on to play Dr. Erik Selvig.
