The eighth film in the high-octane muscle car and muscle man franchise was never going to compete with its predecessor in terms of its box office take - because it didn't have a globally successful pop song and a tragedy to boost its sales - but taking more than $1.2 billion at the box office is still a massive achievement for any film this far into a franchise.
The plot is a little silly, but you sort of know you're getting that with any Fast & Furious movie and Charlize Theron is a little underused as the villain (though she may be back), but it's still a lot of fun if you check your brain at the door. There are ridiculous set-pieces, blistering chemistry between some of the main cast and the best baby carrier fight scene you'll ever see.
You just have to worry about how they'll top that next time out.
