Scoring one of the most welcome and long-overdue Best Picture victories of all time, South Korean satirical thriller Parasite became the first non-English language film to win the Academy's top honour, and there was no one disappointed by its win.

The story of a poor family who scheme to become employed by a wealthy family to make ends meet, Parasite effortlessly breezes through a half dozen genres, but never loses sight of its core assessment of wealth inequality.

It may have had to face-off with The Irishman, Marriage Story, Joker, and 1917, but it would have taken something impossibly special to beat Parasite.
