When it was announced that a sequel to the Ben Affleck-starring 2016 thriller The Accountant was finally actually happening, many expressed surprise considering the nine-year gap between movies, having assumed it had been quietly scrapped years ago.

And really, it was easy to be extremely sceptical about this way-too-late sequel, which clearly should've been made within three-or-so years of the original to fully capitalise on its success.

The potential for a mouldy, half-hearted follow-up was substantial, then, but despite underperforming at the box office, The Accountant 2 received broadly better reviews than the first, with particular praise given to the buddy dynamic between Affleck and screen brother Jon Bernthal.

This was a decidedly less serious-minded sequel which amped up the colourful comedy while being totally unafraid to serve up a thoroughly ridiculous plot twist.

As of earlier this year, Amazon MGM is said to be interested in a third instalment - one which hopefully won't take another near-decade to arrive.
