10. Recasting The Warrens - The Conjuring: First Communion

Though last year's The Conjuring: Last Rites was the final Conjuring-verse movie to star Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, its gargantuan box office performance of course ensured that Warner Bros. would find a way to keep the IP chugging along.

And the studio swiftly announced a prequel set to focus on the Warrens in their youth, yet this will mark the biggest challenge for the franchise yet - can it survive without its charming original stars?

For many, the pull of the Conjuring films was less the increasingly by-the-numbers scares than the terrific chemistry between Wilson and Farmiga, which it will be nigh-on impossible for two new younger actors to replicate.

Further muddying the waters is the puzzling decision not to bring back Orion Smith and Madison Lawlor, who ably portrayed a young Ed and Lorraine in Last Rites' prologue sequence, and who many fans understandably assumed would play them in this film too.

Instead they've been recast again, with Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix now playing the duo, but if this casting isn't absolutely note-perfect, fans likely won't show up for it.
