Now that Nightcrawler's inclusion in Apocalypse has been made public, fans are understandably curious to know what part the acrobatic German will play in the story. According to rumour, the demon-tailed imp is being featured not so much for what he can do but for how other characters are likely to react to him. In short, he is said to not only be there to precipitate Hank's heartbreak but to also blow away any lingering feelings of familial love Xavier has for Mystique. If Xavier finds out about the relationship between Mystique and Azazel, the mutant who killed so many of his students, he's guaranteed to feel utterly betrayed. That revelation can only serve to drive a permanent wedge between the childhood friends, finally marking Mystique squarely as a villain in Xavier's eyes. And once Charles comes to regard Raven as an irredeemable foe, he'll come after her with every weapon at his disposal. Good luck hiding from the world's most powerful telepath, Mystique. Faced with a situation like that, she might even volunteer to side with Apocalypse.
