10 Best Moments In Final Fantasy History
10. The Siege Of Dollet - Final Fantasy VIII
After a brilliant opening FMV to cement the rivalry between fellow SeeD candidates Squall and Seifer, FFVIII takes it relatively slow to start with.
You're in a nice school environment, calm music fills the hallways, and your teacher has the hots for you... okay, so that last one is a little creepy, but it's explained away by with the close age difference. Hmm, sorry, Quistis - Ofsted would still like a word!
In fact, other than the canteen being out of hot dogs, Balamb Garden appears to be perfect in every respect.
Then comes your final SeeD exam: A full on D-Day-style, landing on the beaches rescue of nearby Dollet. With rival Garden Galbadia having seized the town, Squall and his classmates storm in from the water in an epic series of events.
As if the boats skimming across the waves, evading bullets and crashing on the sand isn't enough, the FMV pulls in, the doors open and in-game, controllable Squall comes running out.
The music, the pace and Quistis machine gunning down the tenacious, spider-bot X-ATM092 - it's a truly defining moment in one of the golden era series entries that marks Squall's transition from student to soldier.
