Back to one of the first examples of exaggerated violence, and also one of the best: Mortal Kombats fatalities. Whilst there are an entire catalogue (especially through multiple sequels) of fatalities, ranging from ripping brains out of skulls to literally tearing people apart like chicken bones, the first Mortal Kombats Sub-Zero fatality seemed to become the poster-boy for the game. Although many (including myself) rallied around its darkly fantastical violence and championed Sub-Zeros actions, his victorious holding of a bloodied skull metaphorically represented an entire generational mindset, due to the abhorrent level of violence in what was still a childs medium at the time, thereby drawing more attention to the series (and videogames) than had ever gone before.
