Okay scratch that ending, remember how much you were in love with the series until those final few minutes? It's rare that a developer will take the time to sit and pad out every single detail about their universe - it's certainly the case for Destiny even if said story isn't anywhere in the game itself - and so every little detail in Mass Effect was backed up with solid descriptions surrounding origins of individual alien races, weapons, character motivations, cities and everything in between. Part of the fun we all had was weaving our own custom story, but there are still tremendously enjoyable story-beats and choices that punctuate each instalment in the trilogy. The final fight against the twisted (or is he?) Saren in part one, your interactions with every single individual in the universe in between and on missions, and wrapping up every plot thread with a bow in part three - although the final few moments put a disgustingly sour taste in our mouths, on the whole Mass Effect remains a landmark success.
