17. Can't Romance Shani - The Witcher 3

Although the Witcher 3 is mostly concerned with slaying monsters and stopping the titular Wild Hunt, romance is a surprisingly big part of Geralt’s life as well.

Throughout the story, his two main love interests, Triss and Yennefer, are constantly crossing paths with the Witcher and making him choose which one will be his one and only. But if you are a fan of the original Witcher game, you might have your eyes set on a different character—Shani.

Shani, a kind-hearted and witty medic, is a character who originally appears in Witcher 1 as one of Geralt’s romance options alongside Triss. In Witcher 3, Shani returns with an option to romance her in the Heart of Stone DLC too, but as many fans point out, the choice feels unnecessarily restrictive.

Unlike Yennefer and Triss, who can have a long-lasting relationship with the witcher, Shani can only enjoy a short fling, which not only feels awkward given that at this part of the story Geralt would probably be involved with one of the sorceresses already, but also because it feels as if the Witcher was using her feelings for him to get her help.

You could say the romance is brief because it isn't meant to be canonical, but considering Triss' path isn't entirely faithful to the books either, the restriction feels frustratingly arbitrary.
