20 Major Video Games You Forgot Were Happening

6. Max Payne Remake

In April 2022, Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar announced via a joint press release that they would be remaking Max Payne and Max Payne 2 as a single game from the ground up. The beloved gems from the PS2 era focused on the titular New York police detective as he tries to get revenge for his murdered family while battling demons inside his own head. They introduced the concept of bullet time, allowing Max to dive through the air and fire at enemies in slow motion during gunfights.

After that joint announcement, though, the Max Payne remake project seemed to drop completely off the radar. No footage or screenshots have ever been seen, and a release window of any kind never suggested. The good news is that the project is absolutely still cooking behind the scenes. Remedy's August 2026 half-year financial report lists Max Payne 1&2 Remake as being in 'Full production', which suggests the game has now moved past early development.

Aside from this positive snippet, though, we have absolutely nothing else to go by on this one.
