20 Most Anticipated Video Games Of 2023
2023 is STACKED. What are you most looking forward to?
And so the year draws to a close. Now that we've had time to digest the Good (Elden Ring), the Bad (Callisto Protocol) and the Ugly (Pokemon Scarlet & Violet), it's time to archive 2022 into the great sorting shelf of history and look ahead to what the next year will bring.
And honestly? From a gamer's perspective, it's looking pretty damn great.
Alongside the returns of some of gaming's biggest guns we've got a brace of scintillating remakes - one of which is so far removed from its point of origin that it's essentially a brand new game - intriguing new IPs, the return of a long-dormant classic and, fingers crossed, the long-awaited materialization of some particularly notorious vapourware.
Anyway, enough with the preamble. There's a lot to get through, so let's get started!
20. Forspoken
Platforms: PlayStation 5 and PC
Every year, there's a game on this list that will be a triumph or disaster.
Enter Forspoken.
By now, you've likely seen Forspoken's infamous "So let me get this straight" trailer. A perversely entertaining car crash, the advert came across as a poorly written parody of the disgraced Joss Whedon's writing style. ("I'm seeing freaking dragons!" being a particular eye-roller).
Right now, Forspoken finds itself in the same territory that Halo: Infinite occupied after the latter introduced Craig to the world. Like a tightrope walker wobbling precariously between two skyscrapers, Square Enix's game looks like it will end up either a brave success or a sticky stain on the floor.
Personally, we feel cautiously optimistic that Forspoken can make it to the other side. The magic-based combat certainly has potential, and the super-powered parkour system looks like it will make exploring Forspoken's world a pleasure in itself.
And hey, Halo: Infinite turned out all right!
