19 Things Video Game Fans Are SICK Of
2. Endless Layoffs
It's getting increasingly difficult to switch off and enjoy games if you have even the most basic awareness of what's happening behind the scenes (so if you don't this might be a good jumping off point for you).
Layoffs are part and parcel of any major business, but 2026 has seen the video game industry suffer from an overwhelming number of headline-generating layoffs. Microsoft alone has shed thousands of its employees, with many of the studios in the above photo having been gutted or reabsorbed into other Microsoft-owned companies. Microsoft are hardly alone in this bloodletting either, as other industry giants like Epic and Ubisoft recently laid off thousands of employees.
Even the good news comes with an Obelix-sized asterisk. Bit Reactor, the studio behind Star Wars: Zero Company, furloughed around 80% of its staff around the game's launch but has recently started bringing some of them back. Good news for the recalled developers, but they should never have had to go weeks without pay in the first place. Not to mention that if Zero Company had been an undeserved flop like its spiritual predecessor, those recalled developers would have been laid off completely.
