20 Unlucky Moments That TOTALLY Ruin Your Game

19. General Repairs - Monopoly Plus

Monopoly is the original tabletop friendship-ender, and Ubisoft's 2017 digital version, Monopoly Plus, is not really different in that regard.

Except sometimes it’s not your friends you ought to blame for your misfortune, but the game's awful random generation.

Just like the tabletop Monopoly, the digital version includes Chance and Community Chest cards that can either benefit or penalize you. Most of these provide only minor bonuses or punishments, such as gaining or losing small amounts of cash, until you come across the dreaded general repairs card.

The General Repairs event is a card that forces you to pay 40 Monopoly dollars per owned house and 115 per hotel you own.

In the early game, the card may not seem like a big deal, but if you have the misfortune of getting it late game, when you’re dominating the board, this one tiny slip of digital paper can cost you your entire fortune and potentially deprive you of what seemed like a certain victory.

Just because it’s the digital version of Monopoly, it doesn’t make it any less random or unfair. If anything, Monopoly Plus and its awful RNG are even more ruthless.
