20 Video Game Reveals That Shocked the World

6. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

At E3 2004, Nintendo pulled off the "one more thing" to rule them all, by dropping a reveal trailer for the new Legend of Zelda game completely out of nowhere.

While fans knew that Nintendo were working on a new Zelda in some capacity, its presence at E3 that year was totally unexpected.

More to the point, the trailer showcased the new game's more grounded art style compared to the highly divisive cel-shaded aesthetic of the series' previous mainline title, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

This was enough to send the audience into an absolute frenzy, but it got even better when producer Shigeru Miyamoto himself appeared on stage with Link's Master Sword and Hylian shield, where he was received with all the rapture you might expect for a rock God.

Ironically, the final version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess only superficially resembled what was shown in the trailer, but in terms of cleansing player palettes and assuring them that the next Zelda game would be ditching the toony visuals, it more than served its purpose.
