20 Video Game Side Quests That BROKE You

8. Mrs. Philips/Damaged Goods (Grand Theft Auto V)

To be clear, Trevor Philips is a monster. He's a heinous, destructive criminal who performs awful deeds on innocent people. That said, Rockstar has an incredible knack for making you sympathise with psychos, villains, and monsters (like Sasquatch), which is probably why they snuck this poignant Strangers and Freaks mission in.

After beating the main campaign, Trevor (if he's still alive) will head back to his trailer to unexpectedly find his estranged mother waiting for him. He stands in shock as his mom berates him and dresses him down, before demanding that he get her a truckload of Deludamol. Trevor enthusiastically does so, hoping to get some affection from her finally. Sadly, upon returning home, she's gone once again. You then watch as Trevor falls to the ground and sobs, breaking down at being abandoned by the woman who raised him.

Even maniacs like Trevor deserve some love, and this mission lets you see the side of him that desperately needs it. Rather than the violent lunatic you've gotten used to, you see the troubled boy hiding in this man's body, breaking your heart into pieces.
