How this quest starts - aw, a cute little side story about cooking. How it ends - help, the tears, they won't stop.

Journey to Kakariko Village in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and you'll stumble upon a kid named Koko. She spends the day next to a cooking pot, excitedly talking about her mother's recipes and setting you up with a three-tiered questline to cook various meals. On the surface, this quest is exactly what it says on the tin, a nice chance to help a youngster rustle up some grub.

But it cuts much deeper than that.

If you do some digging, you'll learn that Koko's mother has passed away, with her father, Dorian, telling her and her sister, Cottla, that she is just "hiding." Tragically, Koko sees through this façade. Go to the graveyard during the early hours, and you'll even find her sobbing over their mother's grave, telling Link that she comes here to cry in private.

The whole quest is really about Koko learning to cook her mother's recipes for Cottla's sake and holding in the pain of loss to protect her sis. Maybe this quest would have suited Tears of the Kingdom better.
