20 Video Game Side Quests That BROKE You

6. Life of the Party (Borderlands 3)

Trying to find genuine reverence on Pandora is often a fool's errand, as the Borderlands series is known far more for guns, goofiness, and insanity, rather than emotional storytelling. That said, this franchise isn't afraid to throw out some intense emotional jabs when it wants to - case in point, "Life of the Party."

In this Borderlands 3 mission, Mordecai invites you to a young Vault Hunter fan's birthday party. Upon arriving, you learn that the little one, Grace, was recently killed, leaving Mordecai shattered. Her father, however, insists that the party continues, inviting you to eat cake, play grenade-throwing games, and fire off at the shooting range - all things that Grace loved and had personal top scores in.

Now, a morally just person would, of course, throw the competitions and let Gracie keep her records. Then again, you could also decide to break them all and make the whole thing about you - if you're a psychopath. Either way, the sheer tragedy of Grace's demise and her father's thinly veiled attempts to maintain a joyous bravado leave you in tatters.

This is far from what you'd expect from this game, which makes it sting all the more.
