8 Terrible Games That Didn't DESERVE Sequels

6. Bubsy 3D

There are few video game franchises more bafflingly enduring than Bubsy, because while the earlier installments were basically passable Sonic knock-offs, Bubsy 3D was a failure of such catastrophic proportions that it would've sunk most other IP for good.

Even with the novelty of Bubsy 3D being one of the first fully 3D platformers, its controls, garish environments, and grating voice acting were swiftly panned.

It certainly didn't help that publisher Accolade dared to release it mere months after Super Mario 64 sucked all the oxygen out of the room.

Two poorly received spin-offs were released in 2017 and 2019, but the world was left shook when, last year, Atari announced that Bubsy 4D was in development.

There was a loud echo of "Who asked for this?" throughout the gaming sphere, even as some couldn't help but respect the audacity to produce a sequel to a widely loathed, commercially unsuccessful platformer from 30 years ago.

And in the biggest plot twist of all, early gameplay impressions have been shockingly positive, suggesting this just might be the series' best game yet. A low bar for sure, but great to see it cleared regardless.
