10 Scrapped Horror Movie Monsters That Would Have Been Terrifying

4. Pennywise - Vincenzo Natali's IT

Before Andy Muschietti was brought on board for the latest adaptation of Stephen King's IT, Vincenzo Natali threw his hat in the ring with some unbelievably dark ideas, in particular for what Pennywise would look like. Seriously, this is the stuff of nightmares.

The director, behind Splice at the time, and In the Tall Grass since (among others), got some concept art mocked up, and it's not overstating it to say that he took Pennywise's fear factor to a whole new visceral level. Bill Skarsgård's iteration was scary, but this would have been something else entirely.

Working with artist Amro Attia, Natali brought with his pitch some truly terrifying designs featuring tentacles and brain matter escaping Pennywise's face, as well as some truly haunting, almost brutal images that would not have been for the faint of heart.

Arguably, this would have been too scary for a representation of Pennywise. Tim Curry's design was little more than a standard clown, which to some is creepy as it is, but is still innocuous and innocent enough to lure children like Georgie to him. Yes, these didn't have to be the only forms the entity took, but as a starting point, it's easy to look at these images as too terrifying.
