12. Killer Klowns from Outer Space

In another universe, riotous sci-fi horror-comedy Killer Klowns from Outer Space would've spawned six or seven sequels in the near-four decades since its release.

Yet despite the insane, easily marketable premise and the commercial success of the original film, it remains a single standalone cinematic offering, even with a merch line including video games, comics, novelisations, and collectibles.

Filmmakers the Chiodo Brothers have certainly tried to get a sequel made, though, with Return of the Killer Klowns from Outer Space in 3D initially planned to release in 2012, though it ultimately never went before cameras.

Later, however, the brothers pondered producing a sequel TV series instead, but this too never got off the ground, and later talks with Syfy to license the IP out for a TV movie also went nowhere.

The best fans can hope for, then, is the recently announced remake, which is most unexpectedly set to be produced by none other than Ryan Gosling. 

But frankly, would it surprise anyone if this also never got made?
