20 Awesome Horror Movies With No Sequels

13. Possession

Andrzej Żuławski's Possession is a basically perfectly formed movie - an utterly hypnotic psychological horror film topped by peerless performances from Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill - but especially Adjani.

The film ends on such a bleakly surreal note that it's tough to consider what a continuation of the story could even be.

Whether or not you consider Possession's narrative satisfactorily concluded - and even many fans of the film don't - its apocalyptic finale feels like the perfect stopping point.

Any sort of follow-up would presumably have to explore the implied onset of World War III, and frankly, it's highly unlikely that this would be nearly as interesting or effective as what we, the audience, can conjure in our heads.

With more than 45 years having passed since the original and Żuławski passing away more than a decade ago, it's little surprise that Hollywood is far more interested in remaking Possession than producing a sequel.

Said remake, to be directed by Parker Finn (Smile), will star Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner, so it at least has some potential.
