20 "WTF Did I Just Watch" Horror Sequels

9. Halloween: Resurrection

Prior to the release of 2018's Halloween (which retconned all of the sequels and served as a direct follow-up to the original film), franchise creator John Carpenter said he didn't watch all of the Halloween follow-ups but expressed particular distaste for Halloween: Resurrection, saying, "I watched that one in that house, with all the cameras. Oh my god. Oh lord, god... what the hell?"

That's an understandable reaction.

After all, Resurrection is the Halloween sequel that opens up by revealing that when Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) decapitated Michael Myers at the end of the previous film, she'd accidentally decapitated a paramedic that Myers had somehow disguised and put a mask on. This is the one that then unceremoniously kills off the beloved horror heroine... and that's just the first 15 minutes!

This is the one that unfolds in a cringe-worthy reality TV set-up overseen by the harrowingly annoying Freddie Harris (Busta Rhymes), who should be called the Jar Jar Binks of slasher cinema. It's a series of woeful scares and flat kill scenes before Michael Myers has his ass handed to him by Freddie, who yells "Trick or treat, motherf**ker!" before karate-kicking Michael out of a window.

"Oh lord, god, what the hell?" indeed.
